Elementary Internship Resources

During my internship at the elementary school, I developed and delivered a range of student-, staff-, and family-centered counseling resources designed to support social-emotional learning, well-being, and equitable access to support across the school community.

For students, I created a developmentally appropriate sleep hygiene resource focused on helping students understand the importance of rest, routines, and self-regulation, and how sleep impacts mood, focus, and learning. For families, I designed a separate family-focused sleep hygiene resource that provided caregivers with guidance on how to support healthy sleep routines at home. This resource outlined actionable strategies for adults at home to support their students.

To support continuity of care and access to services, I also developed a local mental health resource guide for students and families I was working with, ensuring they had information about community-based counseling and mental health supports available to them after my internship concluded. This resource reflected an ethical commitment to ongoing support, accessibility, and care beyond my direct role at the site.

In collaboration with my site supervisor, I co-developed and delivered a schoolwide McKinney-Vento professional development presentation for all staff. This training focused on increasing awareness of housing instability, clarifying legal protections and staff responsibilities under the McKinney-Vento Act, and promoting trauma-informed, equitable practices.

Drawing on my background in dance, yoga, and movement-based practices, I facilitated a breathwork and grounding activity during a staff professional development meeting. This experience introduced educators to accessible breathing strategies to support stress regulation and educator well-being, while modeling how embodied practices can be integrated into school settings to help both adults and students. Additionally, I created monthly SEL newsletters for staff, offering practical strategies and classroom-applicable tools to support the consistent implementation of social-emotional learning.

Collectively, these resources reflect my commitment to holistic, movement-informed, and equity-centered school counseling practices, as well as my ability to design and deliver meaningful supports for students, staff, and families within a comprehensive school counseling framework.
